Huskers Travel to Lock Haven for Mat Town Invite - Huskers.com - Nebraska Athletics Official Web Site

After recording their first win of the season over 12th-ranked Arizona State on Nov. 22 13th-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers (1-0) will take to the road for the first time when they travel to Lock Haven, Pa. for the Mat Town Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 30.Ten teams will compete in the invitational, three of which are ranked in the Top 25 by NWCA. Ranked team include No. 13 Nebraska, No. 20 Penn State and No. 24 Lock Haven.

At 149-pounds, 15th-ranked Travis Shufelt will face tough competition. Shufelt will have at least three-ranked foes in his bracket, including fourth-ranked Jake Percival of Ohio. Junior Jason Powell could meet up with second-ranked Chris Fleeger of Purdue. Last season the NCAA championships, Fleeger defeated Powell, 5-0.Fourth-ranked Travis Pascoe faces strong competition with two ranked opponents, while sophomre Joey Malia, freshman Jacob Klein, and junior Matt Murray all have the possibility of facing ranked opponents.

Huskers Drop Sun Devils, 20-19

The Nebraska opened its 2002-03 season Friday, Nov. 22 with a 20-19 win over 12th-ranked Arizona State in front of 733 fans at the NU Coliseum.

Leading the way for the Huskers was junior 125-pounder Jason Powell, who scored a fall just 2:05 into his match to give the Huskers a 17-10 lead that they would not relinquish.

Heading into the 125-pound match, NU led by a one-point margin, 11-10, after junior heavyweight Nathan McClain nearly knocked off seventh-ranked Kellan Fluckiger. McClain held a 4-1 lead in the middle of the third period before Fluckinger battled back to send the match into sudden victory overtime, where he scored a takedown 18 seconds into the extra frame to win the match, 6-4.

The Sun Devils got off to a quick start winning the first two matches of the day at 157 and 165 pounds and jumping out to a 7-0 lead. At 174 pounds, fourth-ranked Travis Pascoe got NU on the scoreboard with a 13-6 victory over 12th-ranked Curtis Owen. Following the victory at 174 pounds, redshirt freshman B.J. Padden scored his first varsity win with a 14-6 major decision over Mazi Burke at 184 pounds.

NU recorded its third-straight victory of the night when second ranked Justin Ruiz recorded a technical fall over Ryan Bader, 21-6, putting the Huskers up by four heading into heavyweight.
