Huskers Shoot for Win Against Buckeyes - Huskers.com - Nebraska Athletics Official Web Site

The 69th-ranked Nebraska women's tennis team returns home to take on 36th-ranked Ohio State (6-1) on Saturday, March 1 at the Woods Tennis Center at 10 a.m. Ohio State will be NU's third consecutive ranked opponent and fourth overall this season.

Last Time Out
(vs. Texas & Texas A&M)

The Huskers dropped a pair of duals last weekend against Big 12 powers Texas and Texas A&M. On Saturday, Feb. 22, NU dropped a 5-2 decision to Texas before falling to Texas A&M, 7-0, in College Station. With the losses, NU fell to 5-3 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Against the Longhorns, Nebraska's two victories came from junior Leslie Harvey and freshman Pamela Castillejos. Harvey defeated Lindsay Blau at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2, while Castillejos defeated Kelly Baritot at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-7, (10-8).

Against Texas A&M, NU was shutout for the first time since a 7-0 loss to Baylor on March 2, 2002. Junior Rose Ketmayura's upset bid fell short, as she lost to 107th-ranked Lauren Walker in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0.

Scouting the Opponent Ohio State
Ohio State enters the match against the Cornhuskers with a 6-1 record.  The Buckeyes' only loss came against 38th-ranked Yale on Feb. 22.

The strength of the Buckeyes is in doubles where they are led by juniors Erica Fisk and Jackie Leskovar, who are 7-0 this season. The tandem of senior Sadhalf Pervez and junior Linsday Williams, has added a 6-1 mark on the year.

In singles action, the Buckeyes are led by Pervez, who is off to a 7-0 start at No. 1 singles.

Ohio State is coached by Chuck Merzbacher, who is in his seventh season as head coach. He owns a record of 96-65 at Ohio State and 229-128 in his 14 years of coaching.

Harvey Approaching Top Five
Junior Leslie Harvey is three doubles wins short of cracking the NU top-five all-time doubles chart. Harvey has compiled a career doubles record of 41-37 in three years and needs just three wins to reach the top five.
