Huskers Finish Third at Black & Decker Cornell Classic

Ithaca, N.Y.--The eighth-ranked Nebraska wrestling team finished third at the Black & Decker Cornell Classic held Saturday, Nov. 20, in Ithaca, N.Y. Host school Cornell finished first with a team score of 172.50, 14th-ranked Edinboro finished second with 156.50 and the Huskers rounded out the top three with a score of 146.50.

Three Huskers won their weight classes in the seven-team tournament. Junior Todd Beckerman took first at 133 pounds, defeating Chad Caros of Edinboro, 10-2. Sophomore Bryan Snyder, the third-ranked wrestler in the nation at 157 pounds, was victorious by an injury default over Leo Urbinelli of Cornell, 1:01 into the match. Junior Brad Vering, who is ranked fourth at 197 pounds, defeated Bob Greenleaf of Cornell, 10-4, to take the 197-pound crown.

Other Husker finishes are as follows: Joe Malia, third, 125 pounds; Joe Henson, second, 149 pounds; Tony Denke, fourth, 165 pounds; Josh Henson, sixth, 165 pounds; Charles McTorry, third, 184 pounds; Pat Miron, second, heavyweight.
