Huskers Defeat Florida A&M, Southern Illinois

Tallahassee, Fla. -- After struggling at the plate Friday in the first day of competition at the Florida State Invitational, the Huskers warmed up offensively Saturday. Four Huskers hit .400 or better as NU defeated Florida A&M, 6-0, and Southern Illinois, 4-1.

Junior centerfielder Kim Ogee was 4-for-8 (.500) on the day with a run scored and two RBIs. Senior third baseman Cindy Roethemeyer also swung for a .500 average, while senior second baseman Leigh Suhr went 2-for-5 (.400) with a home run and three RBIs. Junior shortstop Amanda Buchholz matched Suhr, also hitting .400 on the day. The Huskers, who hit .321 in both games, tallied 17 hits on the day after posting just nine hits and a .182 average Friday in wins over Minnesota and Pittsburgh.

With the victories, NU improved to 15-5 on the season and advanced to the semifinals of the Gold Bracket. Nebraska will face Ball State at 11 a.m. Sunday.
