Husker Wrestlers Fall to Sooners
Lincoln, Neb.-- Fourth-ranked Oklahoma was too much for the No. 7 Nebraska wrestling team Friday, Feb. 4, as the Sooners defeated the Huskers, 27-12, in front of 867 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. NU picked up decisions at four of the 10 weights.
In NU's most dominating win of the night, fifth-ranked Charles McTorry defeated No. 12 Tom Grossman, 10-3. McTorry improved to 19-6 this season.
At 197 pounds, No. 2 Brad Vering won a hard-fought match with No. 6 Orville Palmer, 3-2. When the two battled at National Duals on Jan. 22, Vering defeated Palmer by the same score. With the win, Vering extended his win streak to 15 and improved his overall record to 26-1.
Junior Todd Beckerman won his match at 133 pounds over No. 15 Witt Durden, 6-4. Beckerman, who is ranked No. 10 by Amateur Wrestling News, has now won nine of his last 10.
All-American Bryan Snyder continued his winning ways with a 5-3 win over fifth-ranked David Kjeldgaard. The third-ranked Snyder improved to 27-1 with the win.
The Huskers return to action on Sunday, Feb. 6, against fifth-ranked Oklahoma State starting at 2 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The dual will be broadcast live by NETV.
