Husker Grapplers Take Second at Las Vegas Invite
Primm, Nev.-With the help of three individual titles, the sixth-ranked Nebraska wrestling team took second place with 113.50 points Saturday at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational at the Star of the Desert Arena in Primm, Nev. Fifth-ranked Illinois topped the 52-team field with 156 points.
After defeating 12th-ranked Joe Carr of Michigan at 157 pounds in the semifinals, junior Bryan Snyder, who is currently ranked second, was pitted against 1999 NCAA 165-pound champion Kirk White of Boise State in the finals. Snyder avoided a single-leg shot by the third-ranked White with 10 seconds remaining and went on to win 6-5.
Second-ranked Todd Beckerman cruised to the 133-pound title with a 4-2 decision over No. 13 Brian Watson of Oregon in the finals. He now stands at 8-0 this season.
