Norman, Okla. - No. 16 Nebraska got strong performances from a trio of freshman, leading the Huskers to a 5-2 victory over Oklahoma Sunday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Field.
Third baseman Alex Gordon (Lincoln, Neb.) had a career-high three hits and drove in two runs, while pitchers Zach Kroenke (Omaha, Neb.) and Tim Schoeninger (Denver, Colo.) earned the win and save, respectively, as Huskers improved to 19-6 overall and 7-2 in the circuit with their eighth straight win.
Kroenke, who improved to 2-1 on the season, went the first 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits for his second win of the week. The freshman from Omaha Northwest retired 12 of the first 13 hitters he faced, while his streak of scoreless innings reached 11.2 innings before OU scored a pair of runs in the sixth. Schoeninger picked up his fourth save in as many chances, allowing a leadoff hit in the ninth before striking out the final three batters he faced.
NU, which scratched across single runs in five different frames, finished with 10 hits, including two by Jeff Leise (Omaha, Neb.), while Matt Hopper became Nebraska
