Eight Huskers Receive Blackshirts for the First Time - Huskers.com - Nebraska Athletics Official Web Site

The Huskers held an early morning press conference, then after meetings had a 1 hour and 50 minute workout in half pads in the stadium, complete with crowd noise. The practice included several goal line situations for both the offense and defense. Head Coach Frank Solich said the practice involved a lot of team work today.

Solich also noted that eight Huskers were wearing new Blackshirts for the first time today. The eight joined seven others who had previously earned Blackshirts, forming a group of 15 honored defensive players who earned first-team status. First-time Blackshirts were issued to sophomore FS Philip Bland, senior ROV Aaron Terpening, junior transfer WLB Demorrio Williams, sophomore MLB Barrett Ruud, junior NT Ryon Bingham, junior RRE Trevor Johnson, junior WLB T.J. Hollowell and junior DT Patrick Kabongo.

The seven Huskers who had earned Blackshirts in previous seasons, include senior LRE Chris Kelsay, senior DT Jon Clanton, senior RRE Demoine Adams, senior SLB Scott Shanle, junior LCB Pat Ricketts, sophomore Lornell McPherson, and senior RCB DeJuan Groce.

"You could see and feel the unity and excitement on the defense today," said Solich.

The first updated depth chart of the year was released today. Seven true freshmen were listed including SE Ross Pilkington, SE Mark LeFlore, LG Jermaine Leslie, QB Curt Dukes, IB David Horne, TE Matt Herian and LCB Fabian Washington (see attached depth chart).

The Huskers will practice again on Wednesday, from Noon to 1:45 p.m. Players are available after Wednesday
