2009 Outlook Sophomore Jon Damkroger is among the candidates to replace three-year starter Dan Titchener as Nebraska’s starting punter in 2009. The battle for the job will continue into the fall, but Damkroger had a solid spring to stay in the race with junior Alex Henery and redshirt freshman Brett Maher. Damkroger began his college career at Nebraska-Omaha, before joining the Huskers in 2008. He is a standout in the classroom, carrying a 3.353 grade-point average in business administration.

Before Nebraska (Nebraska-Omaha) Jon Damkroger comes to Nebraska punting for one year for coach Pat Behrns at Nebraska-Omaha. Damkroger averaged 35 yards per punt on 40 punts for UNO in 2007, 10 times pinning Maverick foes inside the 20-yard line. Damkroger was the only true freshman to play on a UNO team that won its first 10 games of the 2007 season before losing to Central Washington in the second round of the Division II playoffs.
Before Nebraska (Norris HS) A three-sport star at Norris High School, Damkroger was a three-year letterwinner for coach Jeff Reed in football, earning first team all-state honors while serving as a captain for the Titans. He averaged 43 yards per punt and also playing wide receiver and safety. Damkroger also earned three letters, served as team captain and was a two-year starter in basketball and was a four-year letterwinner, team captain and four-event state qualifier in track. Damkroger set school records in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter relay at Norris. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Damkroger was a four-year member of the Norris Student Council and the National Honor Society.
Personal The son of Tom and Deanne Damkroger, Jon was born June 7, 1989, in Lincoln, Neb. He has three older sisters, Breann (31), Michelle (29) and Ashley (25). Damkroger was a Dean’s List student and academic all-conference in his first year of college at Nebraska-Omaha, and will major in business administration at Nebraska.
