2004 (Junior)
Siegel played in all 11 games with a starting assignment against Texas Tech when NU opened with six defensive backs. He finished the season with 13 tackles, including nine solo stops. Siegel had a season-high seven tackles in the game at Texas Tech. Siegel recorded a 12-yard sack against Kansas, thwarting a KU scoring threat late in the first half. Siegel also had a pair of quarterback hurries on the season.

2003 (Sophomore)
Siegel played in all 13 games as a reserve safety and finished the season with eight total tackles, including four solo stops, primarily on special teams. He had a season-high three tackles against Iowa State and made two stops each against Oklahoma State and Troy State.

2002 (Redshirt Freshman)
Siegel played in all 14 games as a backup cornerback with a start in the opener against Arizona State. He made 14 tackles, and saw his most extensive action when the Huskers used multiple corners in passing situations. His best game was a five-tackle performance, including a tackle for loss, in NU’s win over Kansas. Siegel also made strong contributions on NU’s special teams.

2001 (Redshirt)
A walk-on athlete, Siegel redshirted in 2001.

Before Nebraska (Grand Island HS)
Siegel was a track and football standout at Grand Island High for Coach Mark Fritch. Siegel helped his team to a 7-3 record as a senior, when he made a team-high 82 tackles from his linebacker position. Siegel earned all-area and honorable-mention all-state honors as a linebacker. He lettered four times in track, was an academic all-state selection and a member of the National Honor Society.

Personal
Shane is the son of Robert and Shelly Siegel, and was born on Aug. 30, 1982. He carries a 3.825 grade-point average in business administration, is an eight-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll pick, and a three-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection. Shane’s father, Robert, played basketball for NU from 1974 to 1977, while his brothers, Stuart and Scott, both had brief walk-on stints with the football team. Siegel and his wife, Jessica, were married last October and they have an infant daughter, Mae Nicole, born on April 14, 2005.
