Redshirt freshman Jared Nielsen hopes to battle for time on the field this fall as a place-kicker. The St. Paul., Neb., native will provide depth behind experienced returning place-kickers Sandro DeAngelis and David Dyches.
Nielsen redshirted during his first year at Nebraska.
Before Nebraska (St. Paul High School)
Nielsen played three positions for Coach Travis Brouilette’s team at St. Paul High School. Nielsen played fullback and linebacker, while also performing the kicking duties. He went 5 for 8 on field goal attempts during his senior season, including a school-record 45-yarder. Nielsen earned all-district honors three times, while adding honorable-mention all-state honors. He was also a finalist at the national kicking competition. He was a member of the National Honor Society and received the president education and Babe Ruth awards.
