2009 Outlook
Junior Cruz Barrett will enter fall camp looking to make a bid for playing time on a deep and talented Nebraska offensive line. The 6-4, 310-pound Barrett has spent the majority of his career working as an offensive guard, but he also tried his hand at center during spring ball. The Florida native will look to make an impact in 2009, after spending the first portion of his career as a valuable member of the scout team unit.

Barrett has worked as a reserve offensive lineman each of the past two seasons, but has not appeared in a game. He sat out as a redshirt in his first season at Nebraska in 2006.

Before Nebraska (Mainland HS)
Barrett was a two-year starter for Coach John Maronto at Mainland, which finished 8-3 in 2005 in Florida’s second-largest classification. Mainland boasts more than 40 current players in college football at all levels. Barrett was listed on the Tallahassee Democrat’s Sunshine 75 and ranked among the top 60 players in the state of Florida by, which also listed him among the top 40 offensive guard prospects in the country. PrepStar placed Barrett on its All-Southeast region team, and he was ranked among the SuperPrep Florida Top 96. He also played basketball for Mainland. Barrett received scholarship offers from Florida, Florida State, North Carolina, Oklahoma and West Virginia. NU scholarship freshman recruit Antonio Bell was a teammate of Barrett’s at Mainland.

Born on April 30, 1988, Barrett lives with his guardians Rufus and Janice Wilson. He is majoring in sociology and is a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. He has been a regular volunteer as part of Nebraska’s team hospital visits.
