Conor McDermott was one of four tight ends who played a key role for the Nebraska offense during the 2012 season. McDermott was used significantly in short-yardage and power sets and provided the Huskers with a strong blocking presence on the edge, helping Nebraska rank in the top 10 nationally in rushing offense.
An Omaha native, McDermott was one of 28 Huskers who earned academic All-Big Ten honors in 2012. McDermott was also one of 17 seniors who participated in the Capital One Bowl as a graduate after earning his degree in economics/finance in December.
McDermott played in 13 of 14 games both at tight end and on Nebraska's kickoff return team. He did not have a reception, but played a key role as a blocker, helping Nebraska average better than 250 rushing yards per game.

Before Nebraska (Creighton Prep HS)
McDermott was a first-team Super-State selection as a linebacker by the Lincoln Journal Star and a second-team All-Nebraska pick by the Omaha World-Herald . McDermott was the second-leading tackler for Coach Tom Jaworski's team with 64, while adding three sacks and two interceptions. He helped his team to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs in 2007. He was also a member of the North Squad during the 2008 Shrine Bowl.
Conor is the son of John McDermott and Joni Piper and was born on April 11, 1990. An economics/finance major, Conor earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in December of 2012. He was a six-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll selection. He earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2011 and 2012, and following the spring semester of 2012. He has volunteered his time speaking at School is Cool Week and hospital visits. Conor’s twin brother, Colin, was also a member of the football team from 2008 to 2011.
