Senior Kevin Thomsen made the move from defensive end to tight end during fall camp in 2011 after injuries cut into the Huskers' depth at the spot. Thomsen quickly picked up the tight end spot and the 6-2, 245-pounder became one of four players to see extensive action at position in 2011.

Thomsen provided a physical blocking presence and helped Nebraska rank among the top 15 rushing offenses in the country. Thomsen was one of 27 Huskers to earn academic All-Big Ten honors. He also earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2012.

2011 (Senior)
Thomsen played in all 13 games, both at tight end and on the Huskers' kickoff return team that ranked among the top 10 nationally. Thomsen did not have a reception, but his blocking helped Nebraska record seven 200-yard rushing games, while I-back Rex Burkhead racked up 1,357 rushing yards.

2010 (Junior)
Thomsen played only against Missouri as Nebraska utilized a three-man defensive front. Thomsen had a seven-yard sack of Blaine Gabbert as NU registered six sacks in the game.

2009 (Sophomore)
Thomsen was a reserve linebacker, but did not see game action.

2008 (Redshirt Freshman)
Thomsen was a reserve fullback, but did not see game action in 2008.

Before Nebraska (Elkhorn HS)
Thomsen was a first-team Class B all-state selection by the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star following a standout senior season for Coach Mark Wortman at Elkhorn. Thomsen helped the Antlers to a 12-1 record and Class B state runner-up finish.

Thomsen recorded 61 tackles, including a pair of sacks, and four interceptions from his defensive line position, while he also rushed for 223 yards and three touchdowns. Thomsen also earned first-team All-Omaha area accolades from the World-Herald. Thomsen threw the discus and shot put for the Elkhorn track team.

Kevin is the son of John and Mary Thomsen and was born on Oct. 14, 1988. A nutrition, exercise and health science major, Thomsen earned his bachelor's degree in May of 2012. A six-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Thomsen also was named to the 2011 Brook Berringer Citizenship Team for his outreach work. He volunteered his time with School is Cool Week, the Omaha Heart Walk, as well as several local hospital and elementary school visits.
