Austin Williams was one of the Huskers’ core special teams players for each of the past three seasons. A walk-on from Omaha, Williams excelled on kickoff coverage, helping the Huskers rank among the top units in the Big Ten in that category. Williams also provided depth at linebacker for the Blackshirt defense.

Williams earned his degree in finance in December.

2014 (Senior)
Williams played in all 13 games and finished with 13 tackles, including seven solo stops. Eight of Williams’ tackles came on kickoff coverage, with four tackles at Iowa, including three unassisted stops. Williams capped his career with four tackles on defense, three unassisted, in the Holiday Bowl against USC. He also had one tackle on defense against Florida Atlantic.

2013 (Junior)
Williams played in 10 games and made a tackle on kickoff coverage at Penn State and forced a fumble on the play. He added a tackle on special teams against Georgia.

2012 (Sophomore)
Williams played in 13 games on Nebraska’s special teams and as a reserve linebacker. He made four tackles, with single tackles in four games.

2011 (Redshirt Freshman)
Williams added depth in the secondary, but did not appear in a game.

2010 (Redshirt)
A walk-on, Williams redshirted and worked on the NU scout team in 2010.

Before Nebraska (Burke HS)
Williams was an honorable-mention Class A all-state selection by both the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star. As a senior, he made 102 total tackles, 22 tackles for loss, nine sacks, two forced fumbles and six pass breakups from his linebacker spot. On offense, Williams rushed 48 times for 450 yards and seven touchdowns and caught seven passes for 60 yards and three scores.

Williams chose to walk on to NU over several Division II scholarship offers and invitations to walk on from Iowa State and Kansas State.

Williams is the son of Rodney and Marg Williams, and was born on Oct. 2, 1991. He is a finance major and was a three-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. He also claimed a spot on the 2011 Big 12 Commissioner’s Spring Academic Honor Roll. Williams has been active in Nebraska’s community outreach efforts, earning a spot on the 2014 Brook Berringer Citizenship Team and Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. Williams has volunteered with Uplifting Athletes, School is Cool Week, NFL Fuel up to Play 60, People’s City Mission, Husker Hotline, Husker Heroes and at local hospital visits.
